STŘELNICE HALL
Střelnice Multipurpose Hall – located within the Střelnice Municipal Stadium complex in Domažlice. The project replaces the former sports hall building, the boiler room, and the original structure of the summer cinema projection screen.
We design a modern building that combines sports and cultural functions while revitalizing the complex in the city center. The design respects the existing buildings intended for preservation and builds upon the architectural values of the historic Měšťanská střelnice villa, which remains an important part of the site.
CONCEPT
The concept of the hall is based on the requirement for a compact, flexible, and multifunctional building. Within a single structure, we combine a sports hall, technical facilities, the operational background for the summer cinema, and spaces for the management of the complex.
The building mass is divided into three volumes of different heights. This creates a clear architectural composition, responds to the scale of the surrounding development, and respects the existing terrain levels.
The main access to the complex is provided from Elišky Krásnohorské Street. In this area, we place a new parking lot for visitors to the Střelnice Hall. In the northern part of the site, adjacent to the summer cinema, we propose additional parking for operational vehicles serving the cinema and its technical facilities.
For visitors of both the cinema and the hall, we assume the use of the existing large parking areas located on Vojtěchova and Hruškova streets. We also preserve access to the existing parking lot near the football field, which serves the wider sports complex.
Technical servicing of the summer cinema and the stage is provided from Vojtěchova Street. This allows service vehicles to access the storage area and the stage for operational purposes.
LAYOUT
The operational layout is designed to be clear and well-organized, with a distinct separation between the sports facilities and the operation of the summer cinema and technical areas. The main entrance is located at ground level on the southern side of the building. The entrance hall connects directly to the reception, from which there is direct access to the sports hall as well as to the players’ facilities. Vertical circulation is provided by a main staircase and an elevator connecting all levels of the building.
For the summer cinema, we place a separate entrance and an independent staircase to prevent operational flows from crossing during events. At the same time, the design allows for connections between the functions and the shared use of capacities, particularly the changing rooms, depending on current needs.
CONSTRUCTION
The Střelnice Hall is designed with a load-bearing system made of a prefabricated reinforced concrete structure. This system allows for large spans above the playing area and supports fast and precise assembly. The structure is left exposed in the interior and used as a characteristic architectural element of the sports hall.
The remaining parts of the building - particularly the entrance wing, operational and technical areas, and the facilities for the summer cinema - are designed as a monolithic reinforced concrete structure. The south-facing windows are fitted with external shading louvers, while the north-facing windows are shaded with interior blinds to reduce unwanted light during cultural events.
The roof is designed as a flat roof and is equipped with photovoltaic panels. The HVAC systems for ventilation, heating, and cooling are located in a technical room in the basement. Outdoor units are installed on the lowered roof between the sports hall building and the stage structure.
The façade of the hall is designed as a ventilated aluminum system combined with a plinth made of pigmented concrete. This increases the durability of the façade in contact with the public space. The articulation and structure of the façade are designed to maintain an appropriate scale and level of detail in the context of the neighboring heritage-protected building.
The landscape design builds on the character of the Střelnice park complex. We preserve the majority of existing trees and remove only those that interfere with the new volumes of the stage and storage facilities. A comprehensive revitalization of the public spaces is proposed, unifying the material palette and improving pedestrian connections between the hall, the summer cinema, the villa, and the surrounding sports facilities.
The paved areas are designed as a combination of permeable and semi-permeable materials. These surfaces support the infiltration of rainwater on the site and reduce runoff into the sewer system. The proposal is complemented by new planting, the expansion of green areas, and the unification of the site into a functionally and visually cohesive environment.
