CABIN IN VYSOKÉ NAD JIZEROU

The cottage in Vysoká nad Jizerou is designed for year-round recreation in the mountainous landscape of the Krkonoše Mountains. The design combines modern elements with the traditional architecture of the region, thereby responding to the context of the site.

The weekend cottage is designed to maximize usable space while seamlessly connecting the interior with the exterior. The layout is kept compact and easy to understand. The roof shape is approached unconventionally, using an organic line that complements the regular form of the house, thereby supporting the integration of the building into its surroundings.

The living spaces are oriented to the south, maximizing the amount of daylight entering the interior. The orientation also responds to the slope of the terrain and is used to frame views of the Krkonoše landscape.

ARCHITECTURAL SOLUTION

The cottage is designed with clean lines and simple forms, respecting the mountain environment. The regular volume is complemented by the curve of the roof structure, which is shaped as a gentle hyperbolic paraboloid.

The main exterior materials are wood and textured plaster, applied to at least three façades. The southern façade is designed with a high proportion of windows in varying sizes and heights.

The largest windows are placed in the primary living spaces to ensure abundant daylight and views. Spaces with lower priority or a greater need for privacy are fitted with smaller windows.

TECHNICAL SOLUTION

The main construction materials are brick blocks and timber. Brick blocks are used for the vertical structures, while timber is employed to enclose the building from above, forming the roof with its unconventional shape.

Insulation and the choice of building materials are employed to ensure energy efficiency and thermal comfort throughout the year. Underfloor heating is proposed for the main living spaces, while indoor microclimate is managed through a ventilation system.

The roof is designed with a slope to facilitate the drainage of snow and rainwater. Modern roofing materials are used, ensuring long durability and low maintenance requirements.
