TOWN LIBRARY BOSKOVICE
A place for meeting, self-education and relaxation = the new Library in Boskovice. A contemporary and modern public building with an emphasis on openness and connection with its surroundings and the creation of new pleasant places to stay.
URBANISM
The aim of the design is to accentuate the role of the library as a city-forming element that will enliven its surroundings and bring quality public space both in relation to the city and in its interior spaces.
We see pedestrian connections to library as an important aspect, that needed to be recognized. That is, the area of the main street Kapitána Jaroše, where we direct the main entrance to the building, and the pedestrian street leading to Masaryk Square. We are treating both of these spaces in such a way that they become an integral part of the new city library. A similar principle is applied to the courtyard, where we place a quiet zone of a pleasant café garden.
These urban continuities define the basic skeleton of the internal operation of the building and the division into individual functional units.
PUBLIC SPACES AND IT'S CONNECTIONS
The roof terrace of the library becomes an important urban space in the solution. It primarily serves as a summer reading room or relax zone. The terrace is conceived as a quiet park space with shading, outdoor furniture and abundant vegetation.
In relation to the surrounding urban structure and using the existing support system, we have designed a clear organization of the space. The central entrance hall is connected to the basic spaces - the library, multifunctional hall and café.
All these spaces can be separated and used separately. At the same time, they can be interconnected if necessary. Flexibility of the space is key to the successful operation of the entire facility.
The various internal spaces, placed as cells in the original skeleton, are wrapped in a semi-transparent light facade that integrates all the internal functions and gives the building a lightness and elegance. In contrast to this austerity, the roof of the building features a park terrace with richly arranged vegetation and shading structures whose geometry is inspired by the town emblem of Boskovice.
The resulting architecture thus acquires an unmistakable identity that becomes an integral part of its surroundings.
